Ok, this is embarrassing. I’ve been playing guitar for over a decade but mostly acoustic finger style. I’m the past couple years I got my first electric and have started trying to solo for the first time ever and it has been very humbling.
I’ve always known there was a tone knob, but my monkey brain said “ah yes, I like tone” so naturally I’ve been playing with the tone knob maxed out for the entire 2 years of my journey. I’ve had a huge problem with hearing unwanted ringing when I lift up from a string. All my other technique - bends, vibrato, etc have progressed but I couldn’t get a clean sound down.
Enter the tone knob. Today I finally turned that bitch down and I sound like I’ve progressed 3 years in one day. Anyways, I learned to overcompensate by always having it cranked so at least no harm done…. But if you’re struggling from unwanted string noice maybe check your tone knob 😂
