Compression pedal - is it worth it?

15 hours ago 6

I'm getting back in to playing bass having joined a band again for the first time in years.

I've never used effects or pedals - I've always just plugged my Fender Jazz straight in to the amp - and used pickup volumes, tone knob and playing position to change the sound.

I've done a bit of home recording and now understand compression - and get some warm and punchy tones out of DAW plugins

So I'm also tempted to invest in a compression pedal for playing live.

From those with experience - how much noticeable difference will it make? The dynamics in my playing aren't super consistent so I'm hoping it'd help my sound to be tighter and more professional.

For bonus points... any recommendations for a good, basic, budget pedal are gratefully received.

I've heard positive things about the TC Electronic SpectraComp - which is simple on the surface but is multi-band and can be customised/programmed from its mobile phone app

Thanks in advance for any help / experience / advice
