I hate to ask-but at what point do you throw in the towel? Weekly lessons for 5-6 months. I literally can not stretch my fretting hand across 4 frets. If I hold my wrist practically at a 90 degree angle, my fingers don't even work, let alone hit the right notes. My instructor has kind of stopped giving me songs to practice because I hit maybe half the notes right. Now we're trying scales, which is probably what they should have started me with.
Mostly I just play along to songs on YouTube that have tabs, so it's more like Guitar Hero. Don't get me wrong, it's fun enough. But, What would you expect a brand new to music student's progress to be at six months? Is it time to try a new instructor? And no, I am in NO way blaming her. At the end of the day, either I get the hang of playing or I don't. When do you get real and call it quits?
