Why: Glue and latex = puffy?

Hello everyone, discovered a weird reaction when I went to use this wood glue which I worked with a latex wine plug. It had been inserted for quite a while (1 year plus), but on removal was still pliable, didn't smell odd, felt just fine except was significantly swollen.

Anyone able to explain this?

P.S. My kids thought it was "super funny looking" and the adults did too 😉
