Unsafe Miami parks and other public spaces?

My husband and kid and I recently stumbled on Simpson Park in Brickell. Seemed like a jackpot as we were driving about looking for a place to be outside on this nice Miami day. Had never heard about it but walked right in, turns out to be a preserve/hammock with a walking trail and a little pond with koi fish. The park attendant seemed friendly enough, told us to stay on the trail and we went on our way. It was quiet, and a nice break from the typical miami soundtrack of cars, etc. all that said we picked up on a strange vibe when two individuals (two solo men) happened to walk by us or came upon us on the walk. Both seemed like there weren’t really looking anywhere or really had anywhere to be, they were almost like lurking. I hadn’t said anything to my husband though my mind immediately thought about those stories about those parks in south miami and Pinecrest where men “meet up” but then while at the pond looking at the fish with our kid, my husband turned to me and said “we should go” - I asked him if he got a vibe and he said yes. Didn’t help that there was a third guy seemingly “learning” (he was not good) to play the violin which added to the element of unease we were feeling but we quickly dipped the fuck out of there. I was so bothered by it that I felt compelled to search info about the park online, couldn’t find much but a review or two, one that looked like it came from a woman guest, she had shared that she did not feel safe when she visited alone and urged anyone who felt like visiting to not go alone, I also read that the park is frequented by homeless people (the two individuals that we were alarmed by didn’t appear homeless as both seemed clean enough) but who knows. Anyway, while we personally would not return, would definitely agree with the guest reviews about not going alone to that park.

Long story short, the irony of this experience is that just the other day driving through the grove, I was telling my husband how lucky we were to live somewhere so wholesome, as we were driving by Kennedy park with people running, with their kids, dogs running about, it was so picturesque and nice to see when the world seems to be so ugly these days.

I hope to be wrong and I know everyplace has its dark side/underbelly and you have to keep your instincts on point these days, but are there any other public places that you’ve visited in Miami that made you not ever want to return for safety reasons or suspicious characters?
