Taxed to the Max, Served the Minimum

6 days ago 23

I moved to Old Town Palm City three years ago, bought a home, and started paying my share — $6,000 a year in property taxes. When I closed, Martin County promised public water would be connected within a year. Three years later, I’m still on well water, even though I live minutes from restaurants and right next to neighborhoods that have had public water for years.

Meanwhile, what does get done?

  • Two new detention centers for illegal immigrants built at record speed — apparently, we’re short on prison beds but not short on broken roads.
  • Highways and local roads that in many places look like they belong in a third-world country.
  • Homeowners insurance costs exploding to the point where people are being forced out of their homes, with zero meaningful action from the state to rein in the chaos.

And let’s not forget Florida’s genius insurance enforcement system: about 1 in 5 drivers have no auto insurance, but instead of fixing it, the state just expects responsible drivers to pay more for uninsured motorist coverage. It’s a perfect example of how we’re punished for following the rules.

Florida loves to market itself as a paradise — but for actual residents, it’s a place where promises vanish, priorities are upside down, and basic infrastructure gets ignored while flashy political projects zoom ahead. We’re paying premium prices for third-world service, and anyone who says otherwise clearly isn’t living it day-to-day.
