I am Afro-Latina. I just moved to Miami. Well, Doral. Everytime I speak Spanish to a Spanish speaking person, they look shocked or say something to the effect of “GOOD JOB!!!!”. Or they will ask me how I learned Spanish. And I will say… ummm. My family?
Is this just because of where I’m living in the Miami area? Or are people really not used to seeing black Latinos? I thought Miami would be used to seeing diversity in the Latino community, so I’m not understand why I’m getting this condescending response? Is it because I live in Doral?
