My friend was shot and killed in Wynwood last night

12 hours ago 4

Her name was Evelyn. She was celebrating her birthday in Wynwood. Two men were arguing and one shoots at the other. When police arrive at the scene, they open fire. Evelyn was in a car with her friends when they were caught in the crossfire. She was shot and taken to Jackson Memorial where she passed away.

Evelyn was a daughter, sister, and had just started her career as a case worker at Baptist Hospital. She was known and loved by many, and her family is devastated by the loss. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time and had nothing to do with the shooting.

I mention that she had nothing to do with the shooting because I’ve noticed something strange going on with the reporting. CBS posted a short, straightforward article early in the day but when I checked the article later in the day it was edited. I expected edits to the article as more information came out on what happened. What I didn’t expect is for the edits to actually make it _less_ clear what happened.

The changes made it unclear how she was actually shot, and even made it sound like she was _with_ the shooter. NBC’s coverage is better and makes it clear that she was with her friends in a car and had nothing to do with the shooting.

When I saw the edits CBS made to the article, frankly it made me sick. I felt in a pit in my stomach as I thought of all the reasons why those edits might have been made. Her family is also having trouble getting access to her body, which is currently in police custody.

If anyone was in Wynwood that night and saw what happened please DM me. Any small details could be important, since the family is starting to worry that they won’t get the full story from the police. I found this post so far and already sent it to the family.

They are grieving right now and just want the truth, something to give them closure. I want to make sure that if they run into legal or financial trouble as they look for closure, they will have the support they need.

Thank you for reading, and stay safe.
