Music Venues with House Bands and/or Jams

I am looking for any kind of music jam, not necessarily an open-mic. More of a chance to participate with a house band. Meet people, jam on covers, improvise over standards. You can usually find a jazz night somewhere if there is a college jazz program nearby. Where I'm from there is a Blues Society that hosts a jam twice a month.
