IWTL How to Speak as Clearly as I Write

2 weeks ago 34

Hey everyone. I'm pretty comfortable expressing myself clearly when I'm writing, because I can edit and take my time. But when I'm speaking in real-time, I often end up rambling or going off on tangents, and I struggle to keep my thoughts concise and focused.

While I do have some social anxiety and it does show up in those situations, this seems to be a larger issue than that. Even if I'm talking to someone I feel totally comfortable with, I struggle to communicate my thoughts as clearly as I can when I'm writing them down. For example, when telling a story to a friend, I sometimes dwell on unnecessary details or have trouble keeping things in chronological order, which makes it confusing and harder to follow.

I really want to learn how to improve my real-time speaking skills so I can explain things or ask questions more coherently in conversations. I also want to figure out what the source of this issue might be (like whether it's psychological, like some kind of perfectionism thing, or just a skill I need to build, etc). Any advice or insight would be really appreciated!

Also, sorry if this type of question gets asked a lot, as I imagine it would. I just figured it would help to explain how it shows up for me specifically.

Thanks in advance :)
