Is Miami-Dade county ramping up building permit enforcement?

Just found out a new neighbor got a permit violation for a bunch of stuff the previous owner installed without a permit, and had to tear it all out.

My jaw hit the floor because it's the first I hear about permit laws being enforced around here in ages.

Is there a ramp-up for permit enforcement happening? Has anyone else had similar stories lately? People with unpermitted additions and such may have something to worry about now.
