Founder of 40 person remote startup. Hired first international employees (UK, Germany, Canada) and international IT compliance requirements are absolutely destroying our timeline and budget.
Every country has different:
- Customs requirements
- Import duties and VAT
- Equipment compliance certifications
- Data protection requirements
- Recovery procedures
We've spent $18k on compliance consultants in 3 months just to figure out how to ship laptops legally.
Been pitched on GroWrk and Workwize which supposedly handle all the compliance automatically. Pricing seems high but might be worth it vs consultant fees and our time.
Key question: Do these platforms actually handle compliance properly or will we still hit the same issues?
Specific concerns:
- Do shipments still get stuck in customs?
- Are compliance requirements actually met or do we still need consultants?
- Does recovery work across borders or do laptops still disappear?
- Is cost justified vs figuring it out ourselves?
Anyone using these for international compliance? Is it worth the cost or should we just hire someone to manage it internally?
