Hey Reddit,
I spent a decade in the Army (active duty) as a 91F - Small Arms/Artillery Repairer. I worked on everything from M4s and M9s to crew-served weapons, and even some foreign and legacy systems. Over those ten years, I saw the full range - garrison life, field maintenance, arms room chaos, deployments, and the weird stuff that happens when you’re the “gun guy” everyone calls when something won’t cycle or zero.
A few highlights from my time in: • Repaired and inspected thousands of weapons from multiple units - if it had a trigger, I probably worked on it. • Supported both combat arms and support units - which means I’ve dealt with every kind of operator personality you can imagine. • Learned the difference between “clean” and actually serviceable weapons. • Got to shoot, troubleshoot, and rebuild just about everything in the Army
Now I’m out, working in the civilian world, but I still heavily involved in the firearms world.
So whether you want to know about: • Army small arms repair training (91F school) • What breaks most often. • What gear actually holds up in the field • Any firearms related question that would help fill in blanks or curiosities!
Ask me anything. NSFW because of the firearm topic.
