I like the cheaper bass?! Found out I prefer 4 string over 5.

I used to play bass in bands, but had a hiatus for about 8 to 10 years. Then I ended up joining a friends band getting a bass and learning all the songs. It’s been awesome. at first I was borrowing one of the members Rouge brand four string and we play in C-sharp standard, sounds fine but it didn’t feel like mine and some of the knobs are janky etc.

I ended up buying a Marcus Miller sire m2. Loved it at first, tones great, but I have found out over the last six months of gigging and what I actually dislike about it.

It’s fucking heavy! It’s been the cause of trap muscle pain that I thought was from work, nope from the bass. I have a very padded strap but still.

Getting it to my tuning was a crazy thing (learning experience made a bunch of mistakes setting up) and I learned a lot but it’s just not set up for low g#, even using .145 gauge and pulling the saddle like all the way back and it’s still has slightly off intonation. And I BARELY use extra string, it more in the way than anything.

Too many options built into the bass that I don’t need would rather run through pedals.

I’m back to using the Rogue much more often but really I just want a cheapish niceish four string.

So suggestions on what I should trade it in for? Play prog metal/experimental punk music.

Experienced beginner here :)
