I grew up as a Jehovahs Witness and am in the process of leaving. AMA.

I am a 22 year old dude. I was born into the religion through my parents and most of my family. I was baptized when I was 15, and although I have not been shunned (disfellowshipped in Witness terms), I have not been participating for over a year in meetings or ministry (inactive in Witness terms).

I have nothing bad to say about the most Jehovahs Witnesses, in fact most of them are very wonderful people. Yet there are some who take advantage of the power and respect they get over the average Witness. I love history, of the world and of the Religion I grew up in, any questions about the origins of the religion will be greatly appreciated because it’s extremely interesting to me.

I’d like to also know what your view of the religion is as an outsider, and possibly clear up misconceptions. I’d also like to say that I would not describe them as a cult, more of an isolationist religion. To explain that quick, Witnesses get their directions from a group known as the Governing Body who are supposed to get their instructions through prayer to God and the Bible. Basically the Pope if he were a council instead of one man.

Thanks I love you all I’m absolutely doing this for attention because I’m very alone right now :)
