Dumpster diving

1 week ago 13

Okay, don’t judge me but I’ve gone dumpster diving. I didn’t even start until my cousin got me into it, and now I only do it rarely, mostly when I’m with her. You’d be surprised how much good stuff gets thrown out. Five Below tosses brand new toys, Ulta dumps working hair tools and makeup. We salvage what we can, but we don’t resell anything. It’s just for personal use or content.

It’s legal in Florida as long as you don’t make a mess and leave if asked. Earlier this year it was easier, but now some dumpsters are locked like the Ulta near Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. One time we got a free couch and a free bed from Save A Lot because they were closing out and what they didn't sell, they just threw it outside, used to be solid.

One time we found 32 left shoes at DSW, probably displays. It's sad because I know websites were literal amputees go to buy their shoes since it's half off.Since they only need one shoe, yes, that's a legitimate thing. They could have easily donated those thirty two left shoes to those people.

We’ve picked up protein snacks from Vitamin Shoppe that weren’t even expired. Save A Lot once tossed a brand new couch and a wrapped mattress. I took the couch and gave it to a friend who had no furniture.

Stores do this because it’s easier to write off losses than donate. Things slow down in the summer but really pick up around the holidays.

If anyone knows good spots in West Palm, Wellington, or Lake Worth, green acres, let me know. It sounds crazy but I’d rather see this stuff used than sitting in a landfill....
