I know I’ve posted here before and I don’t mean to bother anyone, but I’m trying to do really anything I can to get into the industry.
I moved here from New Hampshire and worked as a teacher for around the last two years, with the primary goal of working in the marine industry. To breakdown my attempts, I have:
I. Reached out to the MIASF (Marine Industry Associated of South Florida) looking for apprenticeships of any kind
Got to the second round of interviews for a seasonal dockhand position at Barton and Gray Mariners Club (they went with someone with more industry experience)
I have emailed about 20 shops asking if anyone would take on a helper or had any openings for anything that would get me industry experience
Have applied to every marine job on indeed (mate, dockhand, marine carpenter) etc.
I tried to apply for the marine technician program at Palm beach state college but they haven’t had an instructor for the program going on over a year now
I have signed up for the Yamaha Marine Service Certificate program at the Chapman school of seamanship but that doesn’t start until March.
I honestly just want to work in the marine industry in any capacity. I have a degree in business, I have worked corporate jobs, in the academic sector and worked as an interior/exterior remodeler for almost a decade. I’m good with power tools and manual labor, I know how to behave professionally in an organization, I have consistent work experience, have a license and don’t do drugs. I’m literally just looking anywhere I can for an opportunity.
If anyone knows of quite literally anything in the marine industry so I can start building experience I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for taking the time of reading this post if you got to here.
