The Democrats finally caved and went with the Republicans to reopen the government WITHOUT an agreement to extend the ACA subsidies. In other words the entire 6-week shutdown was for nothing. The Democrats might as well have agreed to keep the government open from the start if they were going to give in to the Republicans' demand that no guarantees be attached to keeping the subsidies.
So what happens now? Well, it's already happening. People who are renegotiating their premiums for 2026 are already seeing quotes raising their monthly payment from $700 to $2500 in many cases. And this isn't just confined to Medicaid. It stretches the entire gamut of healthcare even into the private sectors. It's not hyperbole to say that millions of Americans, especially those with children, the disabled, Americans with family members dependent on them who are disabled, and the elderly who have not reached 65 will have to drop their coverage and rely on the ER for their healthcare. Millions will go into medical bankruptcy and Trump is trying to make medical debt/bankruptcy a part of credit reports now. Combine all this with loss of SNAP benefits and skyrocketing job loss and we see an America going down in flames. America has entered its terminal phase.
