For anyone who has tried the do nothing approach to meditation or something like it, here is a thing I realised today that makes it come a lot more naturally.
Rather than trying to do nothing, or trying not to do anything, or telling yourself to let go, or something like that, which can create its own problems and sense of struggle, try this:
Do what you are always doing.
Be what you always are.
...
The point of this is that awareness/the natural self (or whatever you might call it if you wish to even call it anything at all), is the most constant thing (no-thing) in experience. It is what you always are, and it is what you are always doing, whether you are trying to or not.
So when you do what you are always doing and be what you always are, what this actually does is highlight what we take to be self and what we try to do which is actually transient and secondary to awareness/the natural self (or whatever you wish to call it). So, for me at least when I tried it, it causes the 'grasping at temporary phenomena' mechanism to naturally relax without the need for trying or struggle. So you are doing and being non-transient awareness/natural self/selfless self.
