Why does nobody have a carport?

Looking at purchasing in Ft Lauderdale and I’ve noticed many homes don’t have garages or carports. Is there some kind of rule outlawing them? I’m just looking for something so that my car isn’t getting beat by the sun all day. Homes I’m looking at are all non HOA and I’ve driven around and overtop the neighborhoods on google maps and dont see a single carport
