Snorkeling with an 8 year old?

I'm visiting from out of town. Would like to take my fish-enthusiast son snorkeling for the first time. He's a strong swimmer but still... he's 8. Recs for either a company to take us on a snorkeling tour locally or something safe enough for the 2 of us on our own?
