Need advice re schools in miami

1 month ago 26

Just had my first baby few months ago and looking to move soon but thinking about school districts etc in my future home ... Are there any resources to understand how the school system works here?

Do most people just go to their zoned school? I'm in a higher income bracket so private schools are a consideration but good rated public schools would do too. I can't afford gables/grove/Pinecrest though unless I live in a smaller place and if it's really the best choice.

Are there any decent public schools worth considering that won't cost a 5 million dollar house in Pinecrest to obtain?

What's the best way to get your kid into a good public or private school? Is it easier to start from prek admission and stay in it the whole way to secure a spot on the higher grades? Do you just send your kids to whatever local school you are zoned for and then apply for the magnet programs and hope for a lottery?

How do parents usually navigate this?

I currently live in downtown Bayside area but want to move in the next year or so and hopefully be in an area where I can send my kid to a decent school once they are old enough. I Don't want to keep moving.

I would like to understand the strategy for making sure my kid has the best shot at getting into a good school.

If any school teachers care to have a chat, I would really appreciate it too.

Thanks!
