Originally posted by u/BeastlyBones but unfortunately deleted, I happened to take a screenshot of just the first part of that post. I thought it would be good to have a definitive list of thrift shops around here since there's really some great stuff to be found.
I'll copy the text from the original post and put it below. The earliest parts of what is posted (Syzn-Goodwill Oakland Park) will be a mix of what they posted and some of my words, with everything after being my and the community's input.
Let's build off that! Anyone have any recommendations? Feel free to add them in the comments and I can add them into the post.
Here's a list of local thrift spots:
Originally posted as a comment elsewhere but I added a couple more shops and figured this might be more helpful as a post! There are still plenty I didn't include here but I'm happy to make recommendations depending on the area and what type of items you're looking for.
Syzn (Lauderhill) - Rockstar for (mostly) reasonably priced worn in tees and jeans. I have yet to see anything even closely resembling a shit smear (which is a frightening rarity among tee shops aimed at a younger crowd it seems). No old people stuff (which if you're me, is a bummer, but some people prefer that lol). Also, it's in the same plaza as Tate's comics so I 10/10 recommend checking them out if you're into all things nerdy (plus the little art gallery upstairs can have some great prints for sale). ** American Thrift (Lauderhill)** - It's across the street from Syzn and Tate's and text to Miami Subs. Generally very busy with a small, chaotic parking lot. Signs posted everywhere warning against psarking in adjacent lots. Can be gold mine for a die hard thrifter with a good eye. Most of my favorite finds have been here but I love hunting for eclectic treasures. Upstairs is art + furniture and downstairs is clothes + knick knacks. I'll be honest, shit can be balls to the walls busy and those abuelas show no mercy, but if you're looking for vintage that isn't all marked tf up, it's worth sifting. But it does take sifting, patience, and honestly a SWAT shield would be useful but you can make do without...
Goodwill (Oakland Park) - In my opinion, it's the best Goodwill around in terms of inventory. It's big an has a lot of men's and women's options. A few d goodwills around here will have virtually nothing for dudes. ** Oddballs Nifty Thrift (Oakland Park)** - I've been coming to these folks for years, back before they moved I remember them having an outside patio area and they sold tons of plants, it was my favorite for finding unusual plants (I have some Stapeliads and a few of my favorite sucuulents are from there). They moved to the new location a couple of years ago, and I'm not sure if they still sell plants, but they always had very unique finds from vintage LGBTQ+ memoribila, some fantastic clothes, and lovely furniture.
Out of the Closet (Wilton Manors) - A pretty even mix of fashionable clothing, accessories, furniture, tchotchke's, and a media wall. I always pop in because the folks here are nice, I usually find clothes I love, and they do a lot to support local communities and LGBTQ+ culture.
That's all I got for now. Let's hear it in the comments and I'll add from there
