Hi, recently bought a house in Fort Lauderdale and the garage door was original. The previous owner seems to have installed wooden braces for hurricane protection. The door otherwise is sturdy and it even has windows which like. Right now, we are paying $6.5k annually for insurance and they considered that we have opening protection (we don't as the garage door is think not impact rated). We told the agent that we don't have an impact rated garage door but she says it is fine. I got quotes for replacing the door & for 9r value without Windows they're quoting $3600 with installation. Contemplating getting it installed as the current door is good enough. had some questions: 1. Is there any kit that can buy to reinforce current door making it eligible for opening protection? 2. This week is a tax holiday in Florida if buy hurricane protection items. However I read that in Florida buying impact rated garage door is always tax free. Is that true? 3. Say we don't replace the door and the house gets damaged during hurricane, is there a chance for the insurance company to deny the claim? 4. On Lowe's and home depot etc see better doors for cheaper (even after adding the $600 everyone is adding as installation charges). ls there a way to get the door installed for cheaper?
