Fort Lauderdale in April

Hello all, I just came back from a week in fort lauderdale, first visit. I absolutely LOVED it and I'm already thinking about booking my next visit. The weather last week felt a little cool with the breeze on the beach -- my little petunias didn't really want to swim. My question is, is this typical? Wondering if I should book my trip a little later in the year or if April is usually a bit warmer. I'm debating august to save money but my husband thinks I'm insane. Any and all tips appreciated.
