Concerned about October travel – how’s the weather/hurricane risk?

Hey everyone, I’m planning a trip to Fort Lauderdale from October 12–18. I’ve been reading about hurricane season and I’m a little nervous that storms could ruin the vacation.

For locals or people who’ve visited around that time before: How risky is mid-October for hurricanes or heavy rain?

Do storms usually last all day, or are they more like quick showers?

Would you recommend keeping flexible plans just in case?

I really want to enjoy the trip, just not sure how much the weather might affect it. Any advice or experiences would be super helpful!
